Special Education Advocacy
Special education advocacy is the process of supporting and educating families on the rights of individuals with disabilities in the education system. This can include advocating for appropriate accommodations and support services, such as specialized instruction, assistive technology, and modified materials, to help students with disabilities access and benefit from their education.
Mendez Advocacy works to ensure that students with disabilities receive a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) as required by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Special education advocacy can take many forms, including working with families, school officials and other educators to ensure that students with disabilities receive the services and support they need, and providing education and resources to families and individuals to help them understand and advocate for their rights.
Mendez Advocacy works with a variety of organizations, including non-profits, and legal firms, to provide support and representation to students with disabilities and their families. Our goal is to ensure that individuals with disabilities have equal access to education and the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Adult disability advocacy is a form of advocacy that helps individuals with disabilities access resources and support to meet their needs and achieve their goals. This can include accessing waiver funding and accommodations in post-secondary educational opportunities.
When an individual with disability exits the education system the individual moves from an entitlement program to an eligibility program. Mendez advocacy supports the transition to adult support. Whether that is accessing waiver funding or disability supports in post secondary options, we can help to assure your adult child receives necessary accommodations or services.
Waiver funding is a type of financial assistance that can help individuals with disabilities pay for services and supports that are not covered by other funding sources. Waiver funding can be used to pay for a variety of services, including transportation, personal care, and home modifications.
Accessing accommodations in post-secondary educational opportunities is another important aspect of adult disability advocacy. Accommodations are adjustments to the learning environment that are designed to level the playing field for students with disabilities. Examples of accommodations can include extended time on exams, alternative testing formats, or assistive technology.
Mendez Advocacy can help to identify the types of waiver funding and accommodations that may be available and assist in the application process. They can also provide information on the laws and policies that protect the rights of individuals with disabilities and help navigate any challenges that may arise.
If you are an adult with a disability and are looking for support in accessing waiver funding or accommodations in post-secondary education, Mendez Advocacy may be able to guide you.
